Celebrate Washington, DC in bloom with cherry blossoms and one-of-a-kind international adventures
Day 1: The National Cherry Blossom Festival
Morning
Start with a leisurely stroll around the National Mall's Tidal Basin to see the world-famous cherry blossoms. With more than 3,000 blossoms in bloom, springtime in DC is truly a sight worth seeing. Be sure to include a stop at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, which features more than 180 cherry blossom trees.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is about more than just the cherry trees though. The citywide festival creates a "City in Bloom" and features performances, exhibitions and entertainment across the city. For example, check out the free daily entertainment at the Tidal Basin Welcome Area and its ANA Performance Stage. From the first day of Spring for 4 weeks, the temporary stage features local, national and international performances, and Park Rangers will be on-hand to answer any questions.
Afternoon
Rent a paddle boat and glide along the Tidal Basin for a different view of the blossoms and many of the monuments and memorials. Then head to the National Museum of Asian Art, which showcase Asian culture through ancient artifacts, sculptures and paintings.
Evening
Make a reservation at one of DC's award-winning restaurants or check out low-cost, high-value hot spots, meaning no matter what, you can take your dining experience to the next level.
Day 2: Continue Your International Adventures
Morning
Start the day with brunch at any of the many restaurants in Chinatown and then spend a few hours exploring this vibrant neighborhood. Look for the Friendship Archway at 7th and H Streets.
Afternoon
Continue your international journey with Events DC's Passport DC. The annual celebration opens the doors to more than 50 of the city’s embassies and consulates, inviting visitors to experience the customs and culture of the many countries represented in the nation’s capital. The international festival happens the first two Saturdays in May. Complete schedule available now.
Evening
Take Metro's Green line to Nationals Park for a Washington Nationals baseball game. Enjoy a snack from local vendors and root for Teddy Roosevelt (he never wins!) during the running of the presidents. For pre- and post-game entertainment, check out the bars and restaurants nearby on the Capitol Riverfront.
Day 3: More Blossoms
Morning
Spend the morning at the National Arboretum, which features its own gorgeous collection of cherry blossom trees, as well as an extensive Asian Gardens collection and the National Bonsai collection.
Afternoon
Explore Rock Creek Park in the afternoon, which features more than four miles worth of trails that are ideal for walking, jogging or bicycling. The 1,800 acre oasis also offers horseback riding and a planetarium.
Evening
Take in a show at The Kennedy Center. There are numerous springtime performances at the famous performing arts venue, including free concerts at Millennium Stage most nights at 6 p.m.
